ജനതയെ
ആടുകളെന്നപ്പോലെ പെരുവഴികളിൽ
ആട്ടിത്തെളിക്കുന്ന കള്ളഇടയനുള്ള ആ
ദേശത്തെയോർത്ത് സഹതപിക്കൂ

വിവേകികളുടെ വാക്കുകള്ക്ക്
താഴിയിട്ട്
ഒറ്റബുദ്ധികളുടെ വേട്ടകൾക്ക്
ആകാശാതിർത്തികൾ വരെയും
തുറന്നു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന
പെരുംനുണയരായ അധികാരികളുള്ള
ദേശത്തെയോർത്ത് സഹതപിക്കൂ

കീഴടക്കിയോന്റെ ഭിക്ഷകളെ
വാഴ്ത്തുപാടുവാനല്ലാതെ
തെമ്മാടിക്കൂട്ടങ്ങൾക്ക്
ആർപ്പുവിളിക്കാനല്ലാതെ
ഒച്ചവിഴുങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്ന ദേശമേ ,
ലോകത്തെയപ്പാടെ ഞെരിക്കുവാ-
നൂക്കോടെ ഉന്നം നോക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന ദേശമേ
സഹതപ്പിക്കുന്നൂ നിന്നെയോർത്ത് .

സഹതപ്പിക്കുന്നു
അവനവൻ സ്വാർഥ ഭാഷ ,സംസ്കാരം
അതിന്നുമീതെയൊന്നുമില്ലെന്ന്
അടയിരിക്കുന്ന ദേശത്തോട് .

സഹതപ്പിക്കുന്നു ദേശമേ ,
നിന്നിൽ ,
കാശിനായുള്ള ആർത്തിമാത്രം
വമിക്കുന്ന
പിണ്ഡങ്ങൾ
മൂക്കോളം തിന്നിട്ട്
മുക്രയിട്ടുറങ്ങുന്നവർ .

അവനവനെ കാർന്നുതിന്നുവയെ വളർത്തുന്ന
അവനവൻ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യങ്ങൾക്കു ബലിയിടുന്ന
ദേശമേ
അതിന്റെ ജനതയേ
നിനക്കനുശോചനം
എന്റെ രാജ്യമേ ,
ചങ്ങലകളിട്ട
മധുരമനോജ്ഞ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യമേ
നിനക്കായ്
നിറഞ്ഞ കണ്ണുകളാലഞ്ജലി .

Pity the nation that raises not its voice
Except to praise conquerers
And acclaim the bully as hero
And aims to rule the world
With force and by torture
Pity the nation that knows
No other language but its own
And no other culture but its own
Pity the nation whose breath is money
And sleeps the sleep of the too well fed
Pity the nation oh pity the people
who allow their rights to erode
and their freedoms to be washed away
My country, tears of thee
Sweet land of liberty“
